Downham Market Twinning Club
Croquet
On Sunday afternoon, 26th June several members gathered at the Downham Market Croquet Club at Stow Hall. David Haslam from the Croquet Club explained the finer points of playing and then left members to get on with it. Some members were there just to watch, but several were enjoying playing. Stand out players seemed to be Richard Ehlers and Chas Tagg, who swore he’d never played before! Following the croquet was an afternoon Tea, including tea, sandwiches, scones, strawberries and cakes, all prepared by committee members. All in all, a jolly good time was had by all, players and non.
About 20 of our members enjoyed a lovely afternoon playing or watching croquet. We were introduced to a very simplified version, which meant that more people could participate and the games were shorter. Although breezy the weather was beautiful. We were able to enjoy a sumptuous afternoon tea in the sun and the beautiful setting of Stow Hall gardens. There were no winners or losers but a very enjoyable afternoon. Many thanks to the members who provided the wonderful refreshments
