Civray Visit August 2022
A group of 14 members recently travelled to Civray, the first visit to France by our club in four years. Most went by aeroplane but
some travelled in their own vehicles. On reaching Civray we received a very warm welcome when we attended the welcome meeting, where welcome packs were distributed. Then we went to the homes of our hosts for dinner and the odd glass of wine.
On Tuesday, there was a breakfast in the Town Hall, followed by a walk around the market. In the afternoon a picnic took place at the Comporté
Leisure area, games and boules took place in the afternoon, followed by a small picnic again in the evening.
On Wednesday we travelled by coach to Fontevraud, we visited a mushroom farm and then had lunch in the Restaurant, La Croix Blanche, and very nice it was too. There followed a guided visit to Fontevraud Abbey and we returned to Civray around 8pm, a very long day.
Thursday morning was free or you could visit Charroux Abbey, which was very interesting. Lunch was at Michel and Régine Masse’s house, Michel is the French Club, President. Games took place in the afternoon, and another meal in the evening.
Another coach trip took place on Friday, to Aubeterre Sur Dronne, there was free time in the morning and then we all found our own lunch, followed by a tour of the town, led by the local Mayor. The evening was free. Or there was a concert at Charroux. We went to dinner at the daughter of our hosts.
On Saturday we went shopping at the local supermarket, followed by a ‘sieste’ in the afternoon. In the evening there was a dinner at the ‘Recreation Room’, this took place outside due to the heat which had followed us all week. A plaque was presented to the French club, celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Twinning and Chairman Chris Nunn made a speech. The meal was excellent.
We had lunch at Claude and Marinette Fayoux’s on Sunday with good wine and champagne. Followed by a small meal on our return.
The next day was our return, greatly disappointed, it had been a wonderful trip, can’t wait to welcome our French friends next year.
Visite de Civray Août 2022
Un groupe de 14 membres s'est récemment rendu à Civray, la première visite en France de notre club depuis quatre ans. La plupart sont partis en avion mais certains ont voyagé dans leur propre véhicule. En arrivant à Civray, nous avons reçu un accueil très chaleureux lorsque nous avons assisté à la réunion de bienvenue, où des packs de bienvenue ont été distribués. Ensuite, nous nous sommes rendus chez nos hôtes pour dîner et boire un verre de vin.
Le mardi, il y a eu un petit déjeuner à l'hôtel de ville, suivi d'une promenade autour du marché. L'après-midi, un pique-nique a eu lieu au Comporté.
L'après-midi, un pique-nique a eu lieu à l'espace de loisirs du Comporté, des jeux et des boules ont eu lieu dans l'après-midi, suivis d'un petit pique-nique dans la soirée.
Le mercredi, nous nous sommes rendus en car à Fontevraud, nous avons visité une champignonnière, puis nous avons déjeuné au restaurant de La Croix Blanche, et c'était très agréable. Il y a eu ensuite une visite guidée de l'abbaye de Fontevraud et nous sommes rentrés à Civray vers 20 heures, une très longue journée.
Le jeudi matin était libre ou vous pouviez visiter l'abbaye de Charroux, qui était très intéressante. Le déjeuner a eu lieu chez Michel et Régine Masse, Michel est le président du Club Français. Des jeux ont eu lieu l'après-midi, et un autre repas le soir.
Un autre voyage en car a eu lieu le vendredi, à Aubeterre sur Dronne, il y avait du temps libre le matin, puis nous avons tous trouvé notre propre déjeuner, suivi d'une visite de la ville, menée par le maire local. La soirée était libre. Ou il y avait un concert à Charroux. Nous sommes allés dîner chez la fille de nos hôtes.
Le samedi, nous avons fait des courses au supermarché local, suivies d'une "sieste" dans l'après-midi. Le soir, il y a eu un dîner à la salle de récréation, qui a eu lieu à l'extérieur en raison de la chaleur qui nous a suivi toute la semaine. Une plaque a été présentée au club français, célébrant le 45ème anniversaire du jumelage et le Président Chris Nunn a fait un discours. Le repas était excellent.
Nous avons déjeuné chez Claude et Marinette Fayoux le dimanche avec du bon vin et du champagne. Suivi d'un petit repas à notre retour.
Le lendemain, nous sommes rentrés, très déçus, ce fut un voyage merveilleux, nous sommes impatients d'accueillir nos amis français l'année prochaine.
